Untying Breastfeeding is a film that aims to give a voice to mothers' struggles as they navigate through breastfeeding challenges, significantly the congenital birth anomaly of a tongue tie. Through the film we tell the stories of mothers for whom breastfeeding is immensely important but challenging, and trace the arduous process of getting the right help, encountering medical professionals who often have a dismissive , denigrative or prescriptive approach. We juxtapose these mothers' stories with the voices of experts who are the forerunners of treating this condition. Many of these professionals are mothers who were brought into the field of lactation and tongue tie owing to their own breastfeeding challenges. Thus their approach to mothers is as empathetic as it is clinical, providing the care and support that is essential for mothers. As the knowledge of the condition grows, these professionals are raising their voice to ensure the mothers' voice is not drowned out, and that the treatment is holistic and responsive to the needs of every mother and child.
